What Baked Goodies Go Best With Your Favorite Coffee

We all know that cake and coffee has been a classic pair, I mean, it's been a tradition.  But do you know the specific cake and some other baked goodies that go best with certain coffee flavors?  For example, your chocolate mousse is best paired with Arabica coffee and a carrot cake matches well with Colombian coffee.  Coffee cakes do match well with most coffees, but you'll appreciate them more (the coffee cake) if you paired them with a light or medium-roast Hawaiian and Nicaraguan coffees.  It's like they're meant to be.

How about brownies?  If you have one, share it with me, with us, and we'll pair it with coffee from Indonesia or Guatemala.  That would be like, heaven.. don't you think?

Your favorite biscotti matches well in any flavor, but the full-flavored biscotti is great with espresso.

You can pair croissants with plain coffee, but why not take a cue from the French?  CafĂ© au lait pairs so much better!

The strong caramel sweetness of Colombian coffee and the chocolate touch in Guatemalan coffee are perfect fit for cinnamon buns.

Scones aren't just for tea, they're also great with coffee!  Fruit scones are great with wine-y coffees from Kenya, Yemen and Haiti.  Citrus scones matches well with Mexican and Ethiopian coffee, maple raisin scones are perfect with Nicaraguan, and you can enjoy unflavored scones with Costa Rican coffee.  Isn't that wonderful?

And finally, the rich, salty-sweet flavor of caramel flan works perfectly well with Indonesian and Guatemalan coffee.

Overnight Coffee Crumble Cake Recipe

I was trying to bake last weekend, yeah at least I was trying, and so I thought if I would ever bake a cake, it would be a coffee cake (because you know).  So I went to the grocery and fetch all the things I need, oh before that, I went to the internet to and I saw this awesome recipe.  It's so just perfect!

Now.. the finish product was awesome!.. ok, it wasn't.  It was my first time baking, I had a lot of fun, but something went wrong somewhere in the process.  But the second try I'll assure you it would be a lot better.  It must be.  :>

The Self-Stirring Mug

self-stirring mug

I was searching for some gift ideas for Christmas.. but basically what I want to receive, you see, you need to give ideas to your Santa(s), right?  So I stumbled upon this genius work of art, and I fell in love.  Not only you could use this on coffee, but with everything you put into your mug that needs stirring; tea, chocolate, soup, if you like your soup in your mug, I do that sometimes when there's no other option.

But this gift idea is applicable to any occasions, or even if it's just an ordinary day.  The Darth Vader self-stirring mug is cuter than the other.  Give it to me!  :>

How Nostradamus Predicted Starbucks Coffee. No, Really.

But before you go on, let me warn you that these are all fruits of my imagination with some help from the I-don't-know-if-you-could-really-trust-website; Wikipedia, but whatever, so let's continue.

I think there's something most of us don't know about Nostradamus, him being a coffee lover, a coffee addict like no other.  He traveled to Ethiopia to search for the exact location of the shrubs where the goats first discovered it.  There's also a story of a faith healer who used coffee in his healing techniques.. also from Ethiopia.  Because ever since that discovery, reading that from the local library; Nostradamus have been dreaming of the goats, imagining how energetic and excited and playful they must be over each other.

And he thought he must go to where it started, for the hope of gaining the same power the goats had.  With all his predictions and the crazy imaginations he had, he needs that kind of energy to absorb them all and put them into writings.  That's the least he could do to mankind (he thought).

When he got to Ethiopia, the search of the goats' shrub was unsuccessful.  The goats must have gone so addicted to it they ate the whole shrub, or they predicted Nostradamus will come.  Either way, he's in a very nice place, he thought why not just enjoy the view while writing down the futures of the world.

So he was lying down on his hammock, taking notes of his predictions, when he smelled something really nice out of nowhere.  He knows this smell.  He knows this aroma, but it's more fragrant than the usual, and it excites him.  He followed it until it faded.. opened his eyes and noticed he's just a step close to death.  Apparently, the smell took him to the cliff.  But it's also his fault not being careful, knowing that his hammock is just a few meters away from it.

From then on, he'd been imagining himself sipping the coffee with the same aroma he imaginatively smelled which almost killed him.  He didn't notice, he's been writing down his dream of having the finest cup of coffee; frothy and/or whipped, together with his favorite cake.

Do  you still want to know the story?

This establishment he imagined to serve the best of its kind.  The star of all coffee, which he called StarCoffee.. but he realized it sounds lame, super lame, so he erased the thought, packed his things to search for inspiration.  His feet brought him to the river.. the longest river he had ever seen.  He got tired of staring at it and realized he hasn't eaten for days.  Eager to feed his growling stomach, he immediately created a spear out of a bamboo stick and dived in the water.  He was hungry but he chose his target; he wants the bigger fish.  He had caught one but he thought it's not big enough so he went back to the water and stroke a pose like how Chuck Noland did it.

Eagerly waiting for his second target, he then smelled it again.  That same aroma he smelled from the top of the mountain.  The smell got stronger, but he hasn't moved from his position.  It's approaching.  Then a fine lady emerged from the lake.. and the rest is history.

coffee + cake = heaven knows how perfect they are for each other

What else is best matched for coffee than a mouth-watering, flavorful, and sweet-looking cake.. though I like them not to be too sweet.  Although coffee can be matched almost to any food, it's really perfect with cakes.  If you have a slice of cake, a delectable chocolate or strawberry or a blueberry cheesecake, you'd say "oh god, this one's perfect with coffee!"  That's what I'd say too!  They're meant to be together!

The following are gathered in holy matrimony of awesomeness and sheer perfection..

What Coffee Is Right For Me

I can't remember when was the first time I had coffee, but I am pretty sure that I was influenced by my father.  He's a huge coffee drinker and I was his favorite coffee maker.  But I wasn't allowed to taste his coffee while I was making them, that's weird right?  But I was able to give him the perfect taste; it was strong, but not too bitter and not too sweet.  Everything was measured; the right amount of coffee, sugar, and the water must be boiling hot.  He's got huge, thick lips for that.

That's my father's coffee back then, black and boiling hot.  Now he's pretty much enjoying it with creamer.  I guess I was able to make him try it with creamer, and he haven't requested for black coffee since then.

I started to hug coffee as my partner in life when I worked on a night shift.  I used to consume up to 5 or was that 6 cups a day or night or whatever just to prevent myself from getting a tap on the back by my boss.  yeahhh many times it happened, but I regret nothing.  :>

My favorite though is brewed coffee.  I guess that's everyone's favorite?  Just by the smell of it, it's so relaxing and hmmm you'll sniff it until it fades out.  Oh, I want to add that the coffee I was making for my father was just the instant coffee you buy at the grocery stores, and actually we also love the 3in1 in sachets.  Every brands has got different tastes and aroma.

I like my coffee to be creamy, not too sweet, and not too hot, but the level of strongness depends on how I need it.  Waking up in the morning and after lunch are the most crucial times of my life, because you know I always get super sleepy after eating, so.. yeah.

What about you?  What do you think is the right coffee for you?

Oh, and while you're thinking, let me share this happy mug for inspiration.  Happy drinking!

That is just one of the fun sides of being a coffee drinker.  Heck, you must see the rest of the unique coffee mugs you'd probably think of getting one.
